Foxcroft is a desirable neighborhood just southwest of Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Mary’s Campus and Rochester, Minnesota’s core.  It is an upper-middle class, densely populated residential neighborhood that is situated at the top and southwestern side of a large Rochester hillside.  Here, showcase homes are found on larger city lots with pristine exteriors, manicured lawns and landscaping.  This quiet neighborhood has no through traffic; instead, it consists of smaller roadways that wind through tree-covered cul-de-sacs and dead-end roads.  Overall, Foxcroft is most easily accessible by West Circle Drive (west and south), but can be accessed from smaller residential roadways from the nearby neighborhoods on the hill.

Within the Foxcroft neighborhood there is one park:  Fox Valley Park.  This park is nestled in the valley at the base of the neighborhood hill and it is visualized from West Circle Drive and local bike trails.  This family-oriented park contains an open playing field, baseball/softball diamond, playground and 2 outdoor tennis courts.

Foxcroft is a residential neighborhood and does not have commercial businesses.  However, there are numerous commercial businesses nearby (see “Near” section).

Best Restaurants, Bars & Things to Do Near Rochester, Minnesota’s Foxcroft Neighborhood

To the northwest of Foxcroft, the Rochester Country Club borders the neighborhood and is valued by many golfers, swimmers and community professionals.  In fact, the golf course is so close in proximity that some Foxcroft homes can appreciate a golf view from their living rooms. 

Then, to the north of Foxcroft is the Cascade Park recreation area.  This developing area contains a swimming beach, a natural play area with play equipment and is connected to the city’s popular  bicycle/walking pathsFuture development plans include an outdoor amphitheater for smaller musical performances, events and food trucks. Additionally, to the north of Foxcroft is the Shades of Green gift shop, Tyrol Ski & Sport store, Thesis Beer Project (Brewery) and Beetles Bar & Grill.  

Nearby, at the top of the Foxcroft hill (east), is the adjacent neighborhood’s park known as “Younge Park”.  This park also has tennis courts and an open playing field, but boasts a larger playground than Foxcroft’s Fox Valley Park. Further east of Foxcroft is the Mayo Clinic – Saint Mary’s Hospital campus.  Although it isn’t within walking distance, many opportunities exist for busing, biking and some for parking. Once there, you can explore the campus (Mayo Clinic History & Tours) and/or grab a bite of Bunnie’s (famous) cake at the Canadian Honker Restaurant

Then, to the south to southeast of Foxcroft, commercial retail is prevalent.  First, T.J. Maxx (home goods) is situated near Kwik Trip (a favorite midwestern convenience store) at the base of the hill.  Then, across Highway 52, the Apache Mall can be found and is made up of anchor stores like Scheels (Outdoors Store), JCPenney, Macy’s and Barnes & Noble.  Next, grab a burger at Hot Chip Burger Bar and get your groceries from the local Trader Joe’s.

Next, to the southwest of Foxcroft is a wealth of local history and events.  For example, during the summer, tour the museumand take in an outdoor movie at the nearby History Center of Olmsted County.  In the fall, you can enjoy a wedding at the Mayowood Stone Barn.  During Christmastime, head on over to the Mayowood Mansion and take a guided tour of one of the Mayo brother’s former homes.  Every winter, the mansion is beautifully decorated with Christmas trees throughout each room for the holiday season.

Foxcroft children are assigned to Rochester Public School District’s  Bamber Valley Elementary School (K-5th Grades with 840 students), Willow Creek Middle School (6th-8th Grades with 1,100 students) and Mayo High School (9th-12th Grades with 1,750 students).  

 

Local Tip: Rochester Public Schools has  School Age Child Care (also known as daycare) for students at their elementary schools.  This consists of before school (6:30 am-School start), after school until 6 pm, snow-days (6:30 am-6 pm) and summer days for a reasonable cost.  (Note: Early registration is encouraged due to limited capacity).
